Iceberg Lake Glacier - Its a classic, do it

Checking out a Moose in the trees on the way to Iceberg Lake

LOVED THIS DAY!

Monica and I were pretty tired from our 13 mile hike with 5,500ft of elevation the day before, so this was a perfect chill hike. This hike can be a highway of people, so be sure to go early and make lots of noise. We had a Moose, but Grizzlies are scene frequently here as well.

Grinnell ridge - Glacier National Park

Peak bagging, I like it.
My guy John is obsessed, and if your interested in serious info, check out his blog http://mathgeekadventures.blogspot.com/

This was a rad day out also with my girlfriend Monica. She is a beast and has hiked nearly every trail in Glacier National Park, so I love getting out with her.

This day also included members of the Rocky Mountaineers. Awesome organzization that has been around for a long time in Montana. Check out John's trip report here http://therockymountaineers.blogspot.com/2017/08/glacier-classic-day-1-mount-grinnell.html.

Red Woods California

It is hard to feel big here, in fact, I think that is the point.
These trees are magic and strength, what a dream to walk among them with my daughter.
Grateful.

Fern Canyon California

Our friends that live in Cali told Ellie and I to check out Fern Canyon if we come down south from Montana. Luckly we have a high clearance rig (4 runner) the road is fairly nasty to the trailhead. (30 mins)
The beginning of this hike had amazing views of Elk, yes - ELK! They were just hanging out on the beach. This hike was so lush and green. Gorgeous vertical walls of ferns, and Ellie loved climbing up and over all the trees in our path.
Plan on getting you feet wet!

Crater Lake Oregon

I have had this lake on my list for a while. Crater lake is the deepest lake in the US, fed primarily from snow and rain, it is truly gorgeous and clean. And did I say cold? Yes, but that didn't stop us from jumping in.  This amazing lake was formed 7,700 years ago when the Peak was collapsed after a massive eruption. We had a great night sleep in the Cascade mountain range after an awesome dip in the lake.

Bryce Canyon Utah

The light at Bryce is always so contrasting.

A trip to Bryce is well worth an overnight, we usually roll into the campground and bang out hike in one day. This Natural Park can alarm folks not prepared for weather to turn really cold due to the high elevation. We woke up to a freezing morning and requited coffee for me to get out of the tent.

Highlights here include really cool HooDoos, These pillars of rocks are formed from erosion and are left standing like frozen with many layers. Bryce boasts the largest collection in the world.

Calf Creek Falls - Escalate Utah

This was quite a surprise, Calf Creek Falls was more like an oasis in the Desert. This moderate hike is about 5 miles round trip and through a gorgeous canyon. Look to the east wall about a mile and half up the canyon for a group of sweet pictograph panels. These date back to AD 1200.

We ended up camping at the base of the trailhead and ended up driving up the highway to a spectacular sunset.
