Driving on the left side of the road

Ok, so this has got to be the hardest adjustment that I have had to make in New Zealand......
Bardsley car (toyta caledina wagon) in New Zealand
Why don't they just make all the cars the same through-out the world? All my instincts driving are backwards here. Also - the driving laws are different here....!
First if all.... Yielding or "giving away" is very strange, but I am getting better are remembering what I can and cannot do.
At an intersection you give way to vehicles crossing or coming from your right, or any traffic which is going straight along the road which you are turning into. You are forbidden to turn left at an intersection when the traffic lights are red.
One hazard to look out for are farm animals on the road, especially sheep.Driving at night be particularly vigilant.
Plus there are" Slips" – Small avalanches, sometimes due to earthquakes!
GAS Prices! The price for 91 Octane is currently about $1.66 per litre, with diesel at £1.07 per litre. The price is about $7 a gallon for us compared to Montana's $2.80
Jen sitting on the right side of the car, and driving on the left side of the road. EEK! Watch out Kiwis!

  1. Drive safe Jen. That would be freaky. I'm really enjoying all your lessons about New Zealand culture. It looks so beautiful there!

  2. I had no clue that New Zealanders drove on the left! Just like in the UK, feels strange at the beginning but you get used to it pretty quickly. Happy to read all your news, that's a nice way to share all your adventure - thanks. I love your kids, they're very sporty and adventurous, full of energy and life. Enjoy all that massively fun experience of NZ. Will keep an eye on that lovely blog. Say hi to all. Manou
