Mountain Bike Racing in New Zealand

Single Speed mountain bike racers in Naseby (these guys also had to drink a beer at each lap) The guy dressed as Borat  won $100 for best costume - !

Jen at the pre-race meeting!

One of the perks of moving to New Zealand is the second season of summer. For us, this was a major bonus. Although we are passionate skiers, we love our bikes too. In fact, we gave up another suit case each to bring our bikes on the plane.
John and I were excited to train together and race any local races that we could! As a result we have hit only two so far - John took 3rd both times in the men's division and I took 2nd both times in the women's. Alex hasn't had the opportunity to do these races, but he is planning on doing a race or two - we want to do a 12hour race in March as a family. (not Ellie!)

Below is our next race! Should be so beautiful. Hopefully, I am not suffering too much to enjoy views of the Ocean.

Muddy face after race

John coming in at the finish line to take 3rd in the Men's 42k race! Wicked!

On thing that I really love about NZ bike racing is the "Family Aspect"  - these events are really geared for the whole family to participate. There are games, raffles, food and loads of other kids running around to play with.
