Rock Climbing in New Zealand

Rock climbing at Hospital Flats, Wanaka, NZ

The limestone outcrops at Castle Hill are one of New Zealand’s finest rock-climbing areas. This place is like another planet! There are five main areas, with around 250 climbs and over 1,000 boulder challenges. We had fun exploring the area since it had such a "mad" landscape!
Mostly single pitch sport routes were at Hospital Flats outside of Wanaka. I really love climbing on Metamorphic rock. This rock was called "Shist" and it was super "crimpy". Although the holds were slightly painful with sharp edges, the feet were solid. My favorite ascent was a corner arete climb.

John was climbing real strong, he led all the climbs setting them up with top-ropes for the kids and I.  The kids have natural climbing ability...
( i think all kids do if they climb trees) Ellie is  very flowy , I love her style. She is such a gymnast using her core and moving smoothly from foot to foot.
Alex is solid as well. He knows good fiction and is trusting his feet more to smear and jam in crack climbs. Wont be long until he is leading.
